Above the clouds

The greatest aspect of God’s love is demonstrated in what is probably the most-quoted, most-translated, and most-well-known verse of Scripture, John 3:16: For God so loved that world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. God gives life. Then He gives all things needed to sustain life if those of us He has blessed with abundance are willing to sacrificially share with those who have need. Then He grants eternal life to all who respond to His sacrifice in Christ to remove the penalty of disobedience that Adam and Eve brought upon all of us in the Garden of Eden. So, as the Greatest Giver, it is not unreasonable for God to ask us who have, to share with those in need.

For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required; Luke 12:48

At the same time, one should never feel compelled to give out of guilt or manipulation. God honors the sincere heart that gives out of love and compassion for others. And, when He blesses someone abundantly, He desires that they will respond by abundantly blessing others.

But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:6-7

Know this: God does not need your gifts:

For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine. If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof. Psalm 50:10-12

Also know that He loves those who are generous in the way He is generous to them:

Honor the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine. Proverbs 3:9-10

So, take Him at His Word. You will discover that you cannot out-give the Greatest Giver:

Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. Malachi 3:10
